S,R,V DLO Burj Khalifa Tower

INTRO:
This terms task was to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about an event in history or an era. We were formed into groups of three. My group consisted of Shoal, Rita and I. The event in history we decided to do was to create the Burj Khalifa tower which is known as the tallest tower in the world. Personally I thought that this was a great idea to do, not only because its the tallest tower in the world, but because I knew nothing about it and because everyone was doing there DLO about people. Our plan was to create a paper mache of the tower but that changed due to lack of time. So we thought the best way to show everyone the Burj Khalifa Tower was to do a timelapse of us making and painting it.

PMI:

Positives- Our end result for our tower movie is finished! I am really proud of it. Our purpose was to inform people about the Burj Khalifa tower and I think we achieved that really well. The positive things I think happened, was that we got lots of help from different teachers. They shared with us their ideas and it helped us a lot. We also worked together. Then our voice over. It had lots of expression, it was clear, and it had no silly noises in the background.

Negatives- Some things I think our group needs to work on is time management. If we had started sooner and if we didn’t play around, we could have finished earlier. We also should’ve downloaded the photos we took on the camera straight away because the next day when we went to check them out, we found out that they all been deleted by accident. We then had to change our idea.

Interesting- My most interesting part of our project was doing an animation with photos for our introduction. It looked really cool and I think it hooks our audience in. I also was interested with our facts and information about the tower. Thanks to Rita she found out lots of information about the Burj Khalifa tower and we all learnt more about it.

FACTS:
The construction of it’s work started on the 21st of September 2004 and exterior was finished on the 1st of October 2009, but it only officially opened on the 4th of January 2010. The project of the Burj Khalifa tower was estimated to have costed just about over 1.5 billion US dollars. So much money was spent on this project, and it was all worth it because now there are several different compartments in this tower, earning more money then as to how much it costed to build it. The Burj Khalifa tower is well known around the whole world for it’s height obviously and it’s sight. The tower is a beautiful structure and my group and I have surely tried to capture it’s essence. We hope that this was an informative piece about The Burj Khalifa Tower.

CONCLUSION:
Making our DLO was a lot of fun yet extremely hard. We had to change our ideas three times just because of silly mistakes. Making the tower was lots of fun. It seemed easy to do but believe it or not the tower was really complicated to make. It had different shades of grey and it was curved. I’m just happy we finished our project with a decent movie.

Diamond Age (Where all the 3D Printing happens!)

Three lucky students from our school (Pt England) were fortunate enough to travel down to Henderson, to a place called Diamond Age. This place wasn't just an ordinary place. This place known as Diamond Age creates 3D models. That's not all though. It also creates parts to create another Rep Rap.

Mrs Nua, Makayla, Shoal and I walked into the building with no expectations. My first step into the building created goosebumps on my arm. I was so excited yet cold as the cold air blew on my face. I looked around and saw Miria. Miria is helping us get a 3D printer in our school. Anyway, next to her was a man with long grey hair and denim jeans. His name was Vik and he was our tour guide.

Vik showed us the process of making parts for a Rep Rap. Then he showed us what I like to call TOYS! But he likes to call them 3D models.  Vik was so kind and generous that he let us choose one to take back to school. I got a plastic tennis ball. Shoal got a plastic slingshot and Makayla got a plastic lemon squeezer. All these toys were made from the Rep Rap that Vik made.

Our workshop with Vik was so fun. I wanted to stay there for the whole day but we couldn't. My highlight on the workshop was definitely checking out the toys. The fact that that small machine called the Rep Rap created those things just blew me away. I hope we get the chance to go there but with the whole crew. I know that they would be blown away too. Hansel And Gretel REMIX

Living in a dilapidated house with my step dad, step brother as well as my mum was not the fairytale I was wanting in my life. My dad died because he was eaten by a wolf in the forest when I was the age of four. My mum then married a man named Bob and Bob had a son named Hansel. He was twelve years of age which meant he was two years older than me . So now I’m stuck with my step dad Bob, my mum and my annoying brother.

Five years had passed and already I wanted to leave. Hansel was always spoilt while I had to clean the house and cook the food. It was another Cinderella story. Anyway, mum and Bob never payed attention to me unless there was a mess to clean. How unfair! They accused me of being spoilt as well, even though I wasn’t. This all lead to Hansel and I being kicked out of our own house! “You can not come back until you have learnt how to be sweet little grateful children!” Yelled both my mother and step dad. It was weird how my own mother had agreed with that stupid guy.

We travelled through the woods that surrounded our house. The cool breeze tugged on my long, curly black hair. Hansel led us through the woods. I looked up and the trees were tangled upon Hansels head. He was my older brother so I had to listen to him. “ Everything is alright Gretel! Were not lost.”  His voice didn't fool me at all. I knew we were lost the minute he took the lead. We had been walking for so long, I just wanted to stop.  However, as I was about to give up, we stumbled across something awesome.

The biggest mansion on earth was in our way. I wanted to avoid it by going around it but NO.... “Come on Gretel, we can live here.” Hansel said cheerfully.
“NO! I am not going in there. What if something scary or even someone is in there.” I said. But Hansel didn’t care what I thought. So he walked inside. I had to follow him because as I said before.... He was my older brother. I was soooo angry at him. I always didn’t get to have a say. It was like living at home again only not with mum and Bob there. I walked through the door and my spine tingles. That was a warning sign. I told Hansel but he was too busy playing with all the technology that was in the house.

“Come Gretel. Remember this ga-”
“HEY!” Someone interrupted....
We looked around and saw an old man standing there. “HANSEL YOU STUPID!!!! I told you there was something scary about this house.” I yelled furiously. We argued and argued until finally the old man stopped us. “ OH RIGHT SHUT UP!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?” I was struck by how ugly he was. His eyes glowed bright yellow and scars were scattered across his face.

“We are just passing by and we will be on our way now.” I was speaking calmly to the man. “ No you’re not. You came into my house and I consider that trespassing.” His voice was firm and sound like he intended to speak once more. “ Since you are intruders I will have you be my servants. You can stay and tend my every need.” My brother tried bargaining with the man saying that he will stay if he lets me go. “ No way! You are both staying here with me. There is a room for you and your sister to stay in when I don’t need you.” The man was planning something. It is a gut feeling. I washed his clothes and dishes as well as clean his pet hamsters cage. Its funny how such an evil man can care for such a little creature. “ You are dismissed. Go to bed now.” I dragged my feet up the stairs, tired from all the hard work I had done today, and jumped onto my new bed.

Hansel was fast asleep while I had to lay there and listen to him snore! Anyway, just as I was about to sleep an old raspy voice starts to say something. It was the old man talking to himself. I quietly get one of his gadgets that hung from the wall and recorded him. “When its time to sleep tomorrow, and they are just about to doze off, I will kill them.”
“Hansels gotta believe me now.... We can make a plan to kill him first. Why am I so SMART!!!” Gretel whispered to herself. The next morning came and Gretel showed Hansel. After Hansel just finished listening to it he finally took her advice and they planned to kill the evil old man.

TO BE CONTINUED....

Another Ordinary Day Created By A Bunch Of Girls In Room 21

This movie was created by Shoal, Ashleigh, Jasmine and myself. It stars a year 6 ambassador named Lesieli. We were given the task to create this movie to show what a typical day might look like for a student here at our school. Because Lesieli is an ambassador she has more responsibilities, so some of the things you saw was what only a Pt England ambassador would do. Most of what you see though might be a typical day for most of our netbook students. Leave a comment on your thoughts. I hope you enjoy.

The Best Adventure I Have Ever Been On (NARRATIVE)

The wind flipped my hair into my face. Shoal’s teeth were chattering so she got her jumper out of her bag. She put it on and rubbed her arms. “Its soo cold.” she said.
“Tell me about it.”
Me and Shoal were checking if we had everything that we needed. “Check, check and check.” When we finished we entered the forest with our bikes. The wind was blowing so hard we almost fell of them. We decided to hop of our bikes and start to walk. This is going to be the best adventure, I said in my head

As we continued to walk we came up to two paths. “Which one should we take?” I asked.
“This one” Shoal bravely said.
So we continued to walk and as we did something looked very strange. “Are you sure we are going the right way Shoal?”
“Of course we are.... I think”
“Oh my gosh Shoal!!! So are you telling me we are lost?”
“Um..... Yeah, pretty much.”
“How are we gonna get home?”
“I have an idea. I’ll ring my mum and tell her that we are lost. She will definitely came and find us.”
“This better work” I said looking anxiously.
She got her phone out. Then she started to dial her mum’s number. When all of a sudden she put her phone in her pocket. “That was quick.” I sighed with relief.
“Um Vivienne... Theres no reception.” Oh no I said in my head. I looked into Shoals eye and saw tears running out.

I quickly thought of a plan. “Shoal, follow me.” We walked and walked until our legs were too tired to move. Shoal and I sat down and stared in ore. To keep us interested we began to play hand games. Suddenly we heard something. Could it be. Did we found our way after all. I listened closely. “Cars” I yelled out. I heard cars zooming past. We followed the sound and as we did we found a road. Our eyes followed the road and at the end of it was the entrance to the bush walk. We hopped on our bikes and started riding it all the way to the entrance.

“Were saved” I said to Shoal. We were so happy we jumped around. We saw Shoal’s parents ordering something so we ran to them. “How was your bushwalk?” asked Shoal’s mum. “It was the best adventure I have ever been on.” I proclaimed.
