Fiafia Is Coming

An amazing item is going to happen on the field on 18th April 2013. It is our Fiafia!!! Also on this day it is said that it is the 60th anniversary for Pt England school. If you don’t know what a fiafia item is, let me explain it to you.

A fiafia item is when we choose what cultural group we want to join. There are many groups to choose from like Tongan, Samoan, Cook Island, Hawaii, Niue and many more. There are some additional groups as well like Hip Hop, Singing, Rap, Unicycle, Choir and jump jam. Then we practice and practice until we are perfect. Then on the 18th April we perform on stage where we are able to show our friends and family.

I am in the Tongan girls group and our tutor is Sindy. Mrs Jarman comes to every practice and helps us as well as our tutor.  Sindy taught us a Tongan dance to a song called E Hine E. The song is about a Tongan girl who is beautiful and loves to dance and sing. But everyone finds out that she is actually a witch. Our Tongan girls looked at it on the bright side which was how she loved to dance and sing. In our minds we had to think about how we love our culture and how we love to sing and dance.

I really can’t wait for fiafia. I am looking forward to seeing all the other performances on the stage. I would like to thank Ms M for organising this and for showing us little items in assembly. I know this has inspired people to really get into the culture they are in. I hope that everything turns out well for everyone!!!
